Sewing Machine and Productivity

Sewing is one of the activities that has entered the market with a storm Just look around from where you are and tell me how many people you can see with sewn items on themselves. They are incredibly many. In the very early days that old fashioned sewing was achieved by hand where animal horns were used as needles and animal sinew as sewing thread.

However through to the 21st century a sewing machine was invented and further with innovation there came about electric and over lock machines all which are used differently depending on what you are sewing. Learning institutions have also brought in sewing as a unit in their syllabus. The sewing machine is a favorite of many because of:
  • The fact that you can achieve so much within a short time.
  • You can be able to control and manage the stitches once you are able to balance the machine with your feet.
  • It will serve you conveniently if you are using double threads and on the same fabric because you can use the co – currently.
However it is vital that you only go for a machine that will meet your needs and one that is within your budget. Remember to carry out an independent research to identify authorized dealers.

Sewing and Its Benefits

Either for lack of knowledge or proper tools, our forefathers mostly carried out their activities manually.  Sewing was one of them and it is still a common practice today though no more the manual way because of the creation of sewing machines.

Being a simple art of attaching together pieces of fabrics with a needle and a thread some of the items that can be made from it include table mats, curtains and pullovers. However it has been known that pants are more complex to handle than the blouses.  Interestingly the seasoned sewers have always achieved this from the comfort of their homes alongside other simple tasks like repair of seams and buttons.

Of point to note is that though the traditional manual ways have been overtaken by machines, there are still finishing that need to be attended by hand. Either way both methods have advantages. The machine is fast and consistent on stitches unlike the use of the hand which is slow but majority of the fabrics can be used for sewing.

Like any other activity sewing has its tools of work the most basic being needles, tape measure, pin cushion, scissors and thimble among others.  Over time sewing has been taught in learning institutions and as an examinable unit.
